Participating MunicipalitiesThe Long Island North Shore Heritage Area Planning Commission hired professional consultants in the spring of 2006 to conduct an extensive outreach campaign to seek the maximum number of approvals from municipalities desirous of participating in the Heritage Area. During an ambitious outreach campaign, approvals were received from all the town and city governments and almost one-third of the village governments in the heritage area prior to submission of the Management Plan to the state Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation in October 2006. The following municipalities have passed a resolution of approval of the Management Plan and, along with the Counties of Nassau and Suffolk, been accepted as Participating Municipalities:
BECOMING A PARTICIPATING MUNICIPALITY To be eligible to become a Participating Municipality your village must be included within the approved Boundary Area. If your village meets this criteria, then the procedure for becoming a Participating Municipality is relatively simple. Please refer to the “LINSHA Guidelines for Adding Municipalities,” which you can download from the By-Laws & Policies section of this web site. Included with these guidelines is a sample municipal resolution for your village to use in approving the Management Plan, one of the required steps in the outlined procedure.
